Hey!

How This All Started

My wife and I took a trip to Italy. We ate pasta. We ate pizza. We ate gelato. We didn't hold back. And somehow we came home feeling better than when we left. We even lost a little weight.

That didn't make sense. So I started looking into it.

Turns out the answer wasn't really about the food itself. It was about what's in the food. The same products sold in the US and Europe can have completely different ingredient lists. The EU requires pre-market approval for food additives through the European Food Safety Authority. The US lets manufacturers self-affirm ingredients as safe through the GRAS framework, sometimes without any FDA review at all.

That rabbit hole changed how we shop. And it's why I built iib.

What The iib App Is

iib is a food ingredient transparency app. You scan a barcode and it shows you how every ingredient in that product is regulated in the US versus the EU. It cites specific regulations, links to government sources, and presents the facts as they are.

That's it. No health scores. No danger rankings. No fear language. Just the regulatory data that already exists, made accessible to the people buying the products.

What The iib App Is Not

The iib app is not a doctor. It's not a nutritionist. It doesn't tell you what to eat or what to avoid. It doesn't editorialize. It doesn't rank countries as "safer" or "more dangerous."

It trusts that you're smart enough to look at the facts and make your own decisions. It just makes sure you have access to those facts in the first place.

The Mission

The information iib surfaces isn't secret. It's in FDA databases, EU regulatory filings, EFSA scientific opinions, and the Code of Federal Regulations. It's all public record.

The problem is that nobody has time to cross-reference Title 21 of the eCFR against EU Regulation 1333/2008 while standing in a grocery aisle.

So I did it for you.

Every ingredient in the database is mapped to its regulatory status in both the US and EU, with citations. I built iib because I believe consumers deserve the same transparency that regulators and manufacturers already have.

Scan it. Read it. Decide for yourself.
